We are looking for anyone who would like to tag along/ lead some and hang out on our trip either some of the time or a few legs, 4arch and our boat along with possibly two from the MYC will be doing various lkegs from the Chesapeake to Maryhas Vineyard in August

We are leaving Friday August 17 and going up by the "hop" route.

Friday night- Patapsco to Reedy Island on the Delaware
Saturday night- Cape May
Sunday night- Barnegat Light
Monday night- Atlantic Highlands or and probably Liberty Landing in Newark
next to the Statue of Liberty
Tuesay night- Port Jefferson

then who knows. We are hoping to meet up with some of our Sailnet LI Brethern. Tenatively we think we will be doing Greenport, Sag Harbor, Newport, Cuttyhunk and Vineyard Haven if the weather gods are ok, but it really is vacation so we dont want to entirely lock in. Last time up we did Newport and Sag Harbor so they may drop off the lsit for new adventures say New Groton, or Bristol..who knows. We need to be bacjk to work on Tuiesay after Labor Day ( September 4)

We would welcome anyone who wants to do part, part ways and come back together, or meet us somewhere up there cause you are already there..:laugher:laugher:laugher:laugher

Sounds like a great trip! We have our summer cruise planned or we might jump in on it! We are leading our club on a much less ambitious cruise to Delaware City, Cape May, Lewes, DE beginning August 8 for 11 days to try and get their keels out of the Chesapeake. I notice you are going in Barnegate Inlet. Have you done that before? I've been up the NJ coast a couple of times and in the 3 main inlets but wondered about Barnegate.

Tod, That seems like a great trip. You could even add Atlantic City which is 27 miles if you anted to poke your nose out up the coast a little bit. You will be down in that area when we come through maybe on the 18.

I lived in Ocean City, NJ for 18 years and kept my first keelboat an Islander 28 on Barnegat Bay . I have been in and out that inlet over 60 rtimes so I know it very weelll, and know it can be very trecherous. If you start at the sea bouy all the way out and make sure you follow the "fairway" in it is not usually bad. The issue is that there are shoalks on either side and sometimes if the ocean is large and an outgoig tide the rollers break through the fairway. Akso there is an added bonus....a shoal between the two jetties which goes all the way to the back of them. It unnerves people when they see the green can in the middle of the jetties and when they have to steer very close and follow the north jetty.

At the back of the jetties you make a hard dogleg to the left to the lighthouse and coast gaurd station. This inlet is not an easy one for sure and not like Cape May. Atlantic City or Manesquan, but can be done, just carefully and with good judgement as to conditions'
