Have installed a new Furuno 1715 B&W radar. Final step is to up the mast and check magnetron voltage. Any opinions as to necessity of this. Radar appears to work fine. 1. Not over anxious to go up mast. 2. Requires removal of cover plates etc presenting great chances to loose screws etc

If the radar is working properly, what is the objective?

The objective is to have it working to spec. Might the returns be a little sharper? Is that 1/4 mile bearing really 3/8? Does the gain adjust properly? Dunno
That would be your tune adjustment, not something to do with the magnetron. Check your manual for the gross and fine tuning adjustment guidelines. The manual can be found here. The antenna test routine is described on page 20. The set-up adjustments for the antenna begin on page 27.
