Back when I had more money and used to pull my rig before winter storage, my rigger, a really good guy name Chuck out of Essex, CT, used to wrap my mast boot with this wide white stretchy tape after restepping. It worked great. Anyone know what it might be?

I think you are thinking of this stuff by C.S.Johnson and others. It can be a real pain to get a nice tight, straight wrap. I use the SSI universal boot with a glue together seam and a pair of stainless clamps. Looks great and keeps the water out AND it's reusable.

Thanks, Patrickrea. I will give this a try. FYI, my boat is a 1972 Hughes/NorthStar 38'.
