Hello. Brand new here and looking for some opinions.

Many years ago at my house, a used sailboat mast was acquired to mount a short-wave radio antenna high in the sky. It needs to come down and I'd like to get some idea of how heavy it is and, thus, how many people will be needed.

Here is the relevant information.

It's about 35 feet tall, aluminum, hollow, tear-drop shaped (or pear-shaped, or like an airplane wing). It measures 6 inches across. The narrow end of the tear-drop is 1 inch. Maximum fatness of the tear-drop I would guess is maybe 3 inches. It's been in place for about 35 years and was acquired used, so there are no modern materials.

I'm just looking for ballpark guesses as to how much weight I'm dealing with.

We should do a pool on it. My guess is 87lbs. Based on the Dwyer DM-560 section at 2.26 lbs/ft +10%

I have a 35' mast for my boat and I believe it to be a couple hundred pounds but not certain on that.

My mast is close to 40' and I can lift it my self, so around 200#

I'd say less than 150 lbs.

I have a 38' mast and was working on it last spring. I had to move it from one set of saw horses to another and as long as I got the balance point right I could move it by myself. Obviously being vertical on a roof is a different story. But I can say that the weight isn't going to be an issue at all. It is more of an issue about awkwardness of its' size.

It's going to weigh about 80lbs plus whatever may be mounted on it such as winches, matshead, blocks etc.

Don't understand the concern about weight here...
just invite a few friends over for a keg of beer, have your chain saw
all gassed up, bet your buddies that they can't bring down that
sucker between your neighbors house and new car. Betta wait for
a dark night with a thunderstorm brewing so that no one will see you!

My estimate is no more than 140 lbs.

If you cut off the bottom 12 inch and weigh the chunk it will give you an idea of what you're dealing with. Actually the weight doesn't matter until you get it to the scrap yard. A Hi ab arm can lower it quick and safe. If it can't reach above the CG lash a block or barrel to the base and lower away. lashing the weight is to prevent kick out as you and a couple of buds hand o'vr hand it.
