My wife believes that deck stepped masts are inferior to those stepped on the keel. I cannot believe that builders like Hallberg Rassy, etc. are building boats that are inferior. Is she right?

I personally never disagree with my wife...but you will find most modern boats are designed with deck stepped masts.. it is easier to rig and build this type of mast and when properly designed work as well as a keel stepped one with the bonus of not having another large hole in the deck, The only draw back I have observed was watching a young man remove his shrouds and stays before the crane was hooked up when removing his mast. It toppled sideways to the dock
there was little damage and some that was to his ego. He had just watched a large boat with a keel stepped mast prepare and remove it and I''m sure was doing his best to copy them and learned alot that day.
