I hope it's OK to ask here, but I'm looking for someone to work on my MD-7A and get it running. I just bought the boat and need to get it running so I can move it across the Bay to somewhere closer to home, but the engine cooling system has been partially disassembled. I've not had any luck getting the marina mechanic to work on it. I'd try to get it together myself but this is my first diesel auxiliary, and I just want to get it going!

If I have to do it myself, I have a couple of questions. The thermostat housing was pulled off to remove the thermostat, and the mating surface looks amazingly rough and rusty to me. Is this normal? I saw the other MD-7A thread which has pictures and mine only looks a little worse, but those pictures don't show the mating surface, so I don't know.

The thermostat itself looks like hell--would it be acceptable to run without it just for the time being? Would that liquid gasket stuff be acceptable for putting the housing back together? I figure that would stand a better chance with the rough surface.

The plate that the impeller housing mounts to was removed, and apparently the connector for the negative cable from the battery goes on one of those bolts--is that correct? Can someone describe which bolt?

Greatly appreciate any help!
