Fairladyaffair,
I've searched the net til my eyes are square looking for information on the 29. I found all of the basics and was surprised to see that she is nearly 3000 lbs lighter than the Catalina 30 with similar dimensions. Do they have a cored hull? Deck? If anyone out there has any information on this boat , I would appreciate it. Thanks, I
You might be the the best person to help us with our first sailboat. 29 mirage.
1) How much flex should there be on the mast? Reason I ask is that when I was storing our boat at the marina for the winter I had put tension on the shroud lines and noticed the mast bending then returning back as I released the tension. I guess its normal for the mast to flex depending on where the tension comes from? I just assumed that these masts were stiff and bending wasn't a good sign?
Is there a rig tuning method for dummies that you know of I can resource?
2) Prior to sailing on my first mirage 29 I sailed on a 29 northern for a few years and noticed differences in that the mast ran through the cabin while on the mirage the mast only connects to top of deck. What is the difference in terms of stiffness or structural stability? Should I need to pay attention to anything specific?
3) I noticed the bottom paint were the keel and the hull meet cracking. I'm guessing its going to be me removing the old paint and inspecting it this spring, Not a fun job but always a good time to consider new bottom paint. With the 1986 Mirage 29 sailboats is there any issues or things to be concerned about? Reading things about this online really freaks a new boat owner out. Any advice on this would be great. Btw the the paint on this boat is the thick black stuff. Not sure what type of paint it is. I don't think its going to be easy sanding it off but well worth the effort once its off. I was thinking the VC17 stuff should be much better?
I know this an old thread but if you have any running rigging information or standimg riggi g information i would really appreciate it. I am having to start from scratch. Thanks!
