If there was an explanation in there somewhere I sure didnt see it.

OK, I see using this as an accurate clock. I see using it as a sensitive magnetometer, maybe an accelerometer but you'd have to know the mag field very precisely. How does this determine position of anything?

The plane I fly has three IRS (Inertial Reference System) units on board. Backed up by two GPS and VHF triangulation from a Flight Management System
