Has anyone tried this route? Rather than going south to Lake Worth and crossing, it looks like there is an area of reduced G.S. current behind the Bank so that it might be possible to go offshore due east out of the St. John's R. and buck a bit of current, then head south straight to the Abacos.

I think you'd be in for a very long passage. Any estimates on mileage, including what you will be pushed north while easting?

What winds do we have on this passage? East will kill your speed when you leave Jacksonville, South will kill you once you turn south, and southeast will be a beat the whole way to the Banks. It's rare (from what I've seen) to have S/W or west winds on your east coast.

So no, I haven't done it. Maybe someone has, and I'd be interested in how it worked out.
