I generally pour something alcohol based (don't try to get by with "the cheap stuff". Burbon or Scotch seem to work as well as anything) across her bows and a generous helping into the waters and introduce her to the "old gods" and God as well by her new name and ask for safety and mercy.

As far as "pagan gods" go, as I see it my ancestors were stealing alters from Christians and hauling them home in longboats well before they were kneeling at them. Only seems right to honor your ancestors on such occasions. ;-) No worse than hauling a tree into your house for the solstace celebration to help assure the woodland spirits drive away winter.

Better give a knod to the Cthulhu, just to be well covered. ;-)
