"Don't do it. We keep our boat at MYC on Rock Creek and don't try that shortcut drawing 4.5 on. A 35 C&C. You would save 1.5 miles at best and the risk of a hard grounding in a shallow area nit worth it plus a multitude of crab pots. The passage is for power boaters. Good luck."
I disagree with chef2sail on this one. Been through there several times, although not this year, and have never had a problem. Currents are not strong.
We draw about 4'2" board up and have never bumped. You don't say what your draft is? Go through at high tide if you draw more than 5'.
It is well marked.

"Hart-Miller Island Cut is the local name. Major project underway by MdDNR to shore-up the beaches of Pleasure Island to prevent/slow shoaling in 'the cut.' New dredging is scheduled for early 2011.2 July 2013, a boat drawing 3 feet 10 inches went thru the cut north to south within 1 hour of low tide. Reported no problem s. Lowest depth found was 8 1/2 feet, but most of the cut was above 9 feet."
You can avoid crab pot hell but staying west closer to shore. Seems this year there are not as many crab pots in general on the bay, that said I had some awesome crabs last night at a nearby club
