I have a 36' CC Beneteau (1998 if that is important). Unfortunately, as I was fueling up at the end of last year, the cap found its way to Davey Jones' locker. I took a cap off one of the water fill points and used that over the winter (and stuck a tennis ball in the water fill).

However, now that the season is coming up, I need a more permanent solution. I have contacted Beneteau. Unfortunately, the only thing they can sell me is a new fuel fill that includes a cap. This would require me to take out the old fill and seat the new one. That new cap does not fit the old fill. I'd rather not mess with a new fill if I don't have to.

Any suggestions?

Did you try West Marine? They normally have wide range of caps, one may (or may not) fit.

I have contacted Beneteau.

Sounds like you have already talked with Ward than.
Their customer service in my opinion has always been very helpful.
If you have contacted them and they say the new cap will not fit the old fill, than I believe it should not be too difficult to replace the whole thing.

As long as you have access to the back side of the fill where the hose connects, it should be a fairly easy replacement.

We went through this just last year with the pump out deck plate. Somebody, and I won't mention who, cross threaded the cap onto the fitting and damaged all the threads. I had to replace the complete deck plate and cap. It was not difficult, but I had easy access from inside.

I would think you should be able to tackle it, than of course, I don't know all of the details and its a hell of a lot easier doing this sitting where I am than where you are.

I appreciate the vote of confidence. I have exchanged emails with Beneteau's customer support.

I won't really know what kind of access to the backside I have until this weekend. We launch and that is the next time I'll be up at the boat. I just never thought I wouldn't be able to purchase just the cap ... there have to be many people who have encountered the same issue. Oh well... again, thanks.

In addition, the new fuel fill includes a cap attached by a little chain that will prevent to be lost again ... at least temporarily.

All four of my fills had a chain that was supposed to do that ... of the four, only one is still attached. Unfortunately, that one is on the deck at the water fill where it is unlikely to fall off. The diesel fill is on the stern without a flat surface nearby. Thus, without the chain, it was bound to find the bottom of the lake sooner or later. Shame on me for that.

I had the same thing happen on my 2001 Beneteau 361 last fall! I contacted Rig-Rite, but the replacement cap was pricey. I decided to just replace the fitting with something from West Marine, but the hose is a different size! I went back to Rig-Rite and bought the cap. Assuming your boat uses the Amiot fittings, you'll find them here - Amiot Deck Fills. Had great service and quick delivery!

I dropped one in the river while fueling up last year, and they had one behind the counter at the gas dock. I guess the bigger fuel docks get through them regularly ! (actually they dropped it in the water, and gave me a new one for free)

Have you tried E-Bay? You will be surprised at the sailing supplies they have.
