Food
Water
First aid kit
Clothing
Spare parts
Tools

I think I'm a little confused about the question.

I see that Donna beat me to this... I actually typed the food & water, but deleted because I didn't want to sound snarky;

However, here is what I would start the list with
#1 - a knowledgeable skipper
#2 - a current chart
#3 - a depth sounder

I didn't mean to sound snarky. I suppose my confusion is if you're asking what to take on a trip like that, then you aren't ready to make the trip and haven't done near enough research or sailing to be safe out there.

Based on this question now I'm curious as to what items are on his list of safety gear. From his other threads, the boat he's planning to make this voyage on is a Catalina 25 with a 5 hp (possibly) outboard.

Donna, you don't come across as being snarky - ever! :) Me, on the other hand...

I just saw, and posted to, kidkoolers other threads, and believe that my suggestion #1 would be most helpful.

kidcoolers -

I have a comprehensive list for you. Go through this and you'll be all set.

Best list I've found
I never understand the need people have to do this...

second it assumes the first poster didn't know of a thing called google

But first of all, the poster comes here, and respectfully asks a forum with many seasoned sailors to share their wisdom.

Is that a bad thing>?

You need drinking water. That's all, really, beyond all the sailing stuff to actually move the boat to the next port. All the other stuff on the list will become apparent as you move along. Just go.

Ask cruiser what you need? Hahhahaha. Ever see a cruiser's boat? Tomato plants, cats, dogs, motorbikes, seashell collections, etc, etc. You'll never go.

Oh, come off it. The OP took it as a joke - he even "Liked" the post. Aside from the couple snarky comments in this thread, he has some good information. He also has a couple other topics open right now where he's also gaining some knowledge.

I wish him the best of luck and a pleasant weather window. He sounds like someone in good spirits who will enjoy the journey.

"come off it"?

you make a snarky response to someone who has asked the collective wisdom for their insight. Should guys like him and myself, not read sailnet?

Or should I post something like Let me google that for you instead of making a post wondering why people have to be like you... I would prefer to ask, not just you, but you would be best to answer the question.. though you didn't

I ask again: Why do people feel the need to not help a guy?

btw, my favorite answer from my google search (was that so hard) was

https://www.yahoo.com/tech/why-are-people-such-jerks-online-75755672876.html

and if you think, I thought your post was amusing, it was.. I just like to think people on a sail forum would be helpful in the art of sailing.. not the art of a google joke.

I suspect the OP is asking about things that would be nice to have that may not be obvious.

Flashlights.
Light line, parachute cord
Digital multi-meter and 30' length of bell wire with an alligator clip at both ends.
Soft Shackles and some lengths of Amsteel Blue
Extra dock lines. (include a couple longer than your boat)
Extra ground tackle. A spare anchor and rode.
Rubber gloves (for anchoring and head repair)
First aid kit.
Spare boat hook
jumper battery
Trash bags
Spare glasses
Headlamp with red filter
Lots of batteries
Spare hand held gps
Spare hand held marine radio
Spare life jackets

What happens is that as you sail you start collecting things. After a while you run out of room then the process has to reverse itself.

Aside from the obvious, food , water, Galaga game a few odder things that I always have

Walmart plastic bags - the perfect size everything bag for a small boat
A coupel of of LED puck lights -in a pinch can be mast light, cabin light, running lights
100 feet of Walmart parachute cord. Cheap, don't mind cutting it
Toolbox, electrical tape, duct tape, sparkplugs, stiff wire,
Chinese lanterns -solar. Run up the topping lift mark, your boat in a crowded mooring
Dinghy anchor - beats using your battery and having it submerged where the beach used to be
ginger root capsules-3 bucks of seasick prevention Myth Busters endorsed

I think a trip to the library and some time on Google would serve the OP well. This question has been asked and answered dozens if not hundreds of times. If someone can't be bothered to do their own learning and research that person isn't ready to be out on the water. We need some personal responsibility here. Jumping on the Internet with a question that amounts to "tell me what to do" does not indicate any kind of good judgment and is probably indicative of a cell phone call (because the questioner won't know how to use the VHF) calling for help somewhere off Marathon.

I asked the very same question....three or four years ago when I first got on SailNet...

I had bought my boat in the fall and it was winter (kinda like now) and I was e-bay shopping for "stuff" for the boat...wanted to make sure I had the essentials for safety, comfort and convenience...Didn't want to go out and learn the "hard way" what I was missing...

And I was given the same terse " if you don't know what you need on a boat, then maybe you shouldn't have a boat"... and "Take ASA 101 and come back"...

It's the middle of winter, I'm on a "sailing forum" asking advise from sailors and I got blown off (kudos for those trying to help the OP) I didn't know what I didn't know and had to start somewhere...didn't realize a sailing forum may not be the safest place to start...

Lotta "Lists" on the internet...and it isn't practical to bring "everything" on the the lists...would be nice to know what is frivolous, and what is a basic essential...

Would have been nice to know suntan lotion, Aloh Vera, and Bug spray were kinda on the essential side...rather than learning it the hard way...

If we're going to be snarky, let's go all-in and obvious.

Actually, if no one ever asked the dumb questions, the answers wouldn't be posted for us to find. The early years of the internet were pretty thin on content.

Of course, there have always been books at the public library. ;) That's largely (other than practice and mistakes) how I learned. A MUCH better source of basic information than a forum.

There is a big difference between an open ended "tell me what to do/buy" and a more reasonable statement of what research you have done, your current thoughts, and a request for comment.
