Does anyone know of sources for staysail stay release levers? The one we have on Taleisin was made by ABI but I don't think they are still in business. We have found some made by Johnson marine but need to have more sources as we are updating our book, Capable Cruiser and want to be sure we give folks a wide variety of choices if they exist.

Thanks in advance for any leads you can give us.

According to this google search, ABI still makes them and they're sold by Torrenson marine.

Bumping for interest here.

I seem to be finding the same issues as Lynn, I can't find the ABI, they seem to have gone out of business.

Anyone buy one of these recently?

Know of a source?

The Johnson ones look kinda, well, ugly.

Hi
On page 103 of the 3rd edition of Capable Cruiser (we just got it finished and out a few weeks ago) there is a diagram of a simple J-hook style release lever Larry made for a friend of ours. I would post the diagram here, but not sure how to upload it. If you send me your email, I will send it to you. Otherwise, if you let me know a simple way of uploading it onto this message board I will do that.

Best,
Lin

Hi Lin
Below the box this is witten in under "additional options" click "manage attachments". Another window will open and it will give you the max sizes for each type. Click "browse" and find it on your computer, then click "upload". After it is uploaded post as a message. Hope this helps.

A simple staysail stay release lever you can build yourself

Unfortunately the diagram of how to build your own J hook would not load onto this forum site. We have posted it on our website under Cruising tips. The direct url is Staysail Release Levers @ Lin & Larry Pardey

We have built a few like this for clients. Cost was definitely affordable and the J hook worked well.

Hi Lin,

I have read good things about this vendor in the UK - they sell highfield (backstay) levers and forestay levers:

Never Mind the Bowlocks - It's Classic Marine

I haven't bought anything from them myself yet, but after looking through their website again, I think I'm going to soon!
