An emergency rudder is one of the options offered on the Hunter 49. I have one, and it is a big, beefy stainless steel structure that attaches to three eye pads mounted on the transom, and is controlled with a stainless steel tiller. I have it stowed on cradles in one of the transom lockers. Its cost when I ordered it in June 2006 was CA$1,100.
