I'm looking for a new main sail for my 1978 C&C 34, well not literally new, but new to me...and in good shape. I've contacted some local sail making shops and they only offer "new" sails...I'd love to get my hands on a used sail if possible.

Anyone have any suggestions on where I can look next?

Do searching and you'll find 20+ other options with online inventories to browse.

Save some money to change out sail track slides and do any minor repairs that are needed.

If you can find, one locally. There are probably lots of racers in Chicago who sell pretty good sails every year. If they are local, then you may be able to arrange to see how it sets on your boat. It is impossible to know if sails that look new online are totally blown. It might also be worth waiting a few years, and buying new.

I had an excellent experience buying a used genoa at Bacons (but I went in person). I got a good value, and they put a UV cover and penant on it for me (at extra cost, of course).

Regarding the previous reply, have you considered a "wanted to buy" advertisement in the boat section of your local Craigslist? It's free, and it couldn't hurt.

Before posting, make sure you have the mainsail measurements at the ready when discussing prospective sails on the phone.

eBay...just make sure you distinguish between fractional and masthead rig offerings for proper cut...
