Livn,

I'll go old school and suggest a Westsail 32. It would make a great liveaboard and is as seaworthy and capable of making the trek to Hawaii as any boat on the planet. They're not the fastest or most modern boat around, but they'll get you there in one piece and have the room of most 35'-40' boats on the inside. Plus, you should find multiple options to purchase one on the west coast.

Now I'll sit back and watch the "old shoe" comments come flying in.

If you're going to look at a Westsnail, at least look at the 43"s? Then you at least will have some go power! Or look at Valents which will be WAY faster than a westsnail!

Agreed...if the OP's purpose is to make speed. The Valiant 32 has many of the W32's virtues with a more modern and speedy hull/keel. But if his stated purpose is to liveaboard with some casual cruising to include bluewater the W32 may fit the bill just fine. What's the rush?
