Been lurking on this site for a little. My dream is to get a nice boat in 20 years or so when I retire and take it down to Key Largo from Annapolis MD.

Dude, don't wait! Pick up a trailer sailor now and get started! You can get one in the 23 foot range in good condition on a trailer for around $4000. Sail like crazy, learn all you can (there's lots to know), make all sorts of mistakes, loose some gelcoat, and run aground. Then, move up and be experienced and comfortable on the big one. Waiting is a mistake. Ask me how I know.
