We are looking at a boat that has a furler unit branded with the North Sails logo. i believe it may have been made by Harken, it appears fairly old, but it definitely has the North Sails logo on it.

Anyone have experiences with these or comments on how they perform?

If I remember correctly North made two types , spool up drum and a continuous line drum . I once sailed on a boat with the continuous line , we reefed it but the line would not hold and the sail would unfurl . It wasn't my boat so I didn't give it much thought . A friend of mine told me we were doing it wrong and that the unit will reef fine . I'm sorry this was over 10yrs. ago and I forgot what the guy said . But just in general make sure the bearings are free .
