We finally got the bulwarks off and Charles is getting them cleaned up:

We also pulled a deck plate out (in splinters) and found it 70% soft.

I found a split in that stringer. Looks like I have to take more out.

She looks strange with the bulwarks off.

I still have to pull this mess aft.

The cockpit needs to come out too.

Lotsa work to do yet....

Wow Charlie - are you marking all those parts you're ripping off so you know where they go? Just kidding. But, man, I'd be getting lost about now.

What are you going to replace the deckplate with? And how do you replace that stringer?

I've gotta drilled tiny holes alongside the through bolts to mark position and then use a hole saw to remove the glass on the hull so I can pull them. Then I'll scarf in a new stringer section and bolt it back up. I'll finish with epoxy for the holes. I'm debating scarfing in a section of the sheer plank there too. I have to pull the house and cut new deck plates out of 3/8" marine ply. I'll screw those back down and reset the house. I probably have to pull the bulkheads loose or at least pull the screws at the top to pull the house.

I have to ask, because I am refitting a Pearson 26 that had a small stint of neglect before I inherited her -- did you plan to strip it down that far or was it a case of "that need to go too"?

I didn't plan on this far down but ran into a bad repair and it's resultant rot that forced the issue. After pulling that seemingly solid deck plate and seeing it was 70% bad, I decided to do the entire deck. I know there's some more goodies hiding under the cockpit just because I can't get there. I will get there though....

Good luck - I finally lost enough weight to squeeze in to get below the cockpit - actually I lost a few more from the baking delivered by the Texas sun. Your photos remind me of where I started - just glad the end is near. . .fingers crossed.

I'll be pulling mine apart. No way I can fit in there. Once I get the deck, cockpit sole and coaming out, I'll have a really good idea what's up under there.

I don't know. It's copper and for the 110.

Nah, nowhere near that level. Even if I take her down to the hull and frames. I will know exactly what's what with this boat when I'm done. This pictorial history will join other photos in the album for some future owner. I believe in documentation.
