Greetings, I was wondering if anyone would care to share thier oppinions reguarding the purchase of either a 27''Oday,27''Catalina,27''C&C,or a 28''Islander.
We are looking for a somewhat stiff boat and roomy (I know this is a bit of an oxymoron for a 27''-28'' boat..)
The Catalina is the only one with an outboard, which will probably diqualify the vessel. We sail Lake Superior and go out in all weather. The Oday has a diesel, the other two have Atomic-4''s.I am personaly leaning towards the Islander. Any Oppinions?? Thanks

The C&C, if it is in reasonable condition now, will still be sailing ten years from now, and will still look ok. It will sail reasonably well and while it may look tired, will still be able to take on Lake Superior (unless you hit something hard with it). When the Atomic 4 dies, it will be worth replacing it with a diesel. (You should also be able to negotiate a more favorable price due to the gasoline engine.) The others do not perform as well under sail, and will take more effort to keep them looking presentable. Despite this, they will still deteriorate more quickly. IMHO that even if you shined them up, they won''t look as good as a tired C&C; the lines just arent'' there. Everything depends upon the survey, however. If the C&C doesn''t pass muster, it doesn''t pass muster, and another boat might be better. Do O''Day and Islander still build boats, by the way?
