I can't remember if this has been covered on Sailnet forums before. The issue of through transom outboards on boats so designed. I like the position while running but have an older Johnson that the throttle/shift cables can't connect to. If I make my '74 model my forever boat I will need to do something.
What is new and what is old that will work? The cutout is already enlarged a little to accommodate the '98 model johnson 9.9 2-stroke. It has adequate power but maneuvering into the dock in wind and/or current is scary without easy access to throttle and shift.
