P26 battery location

My '72 P26 has the battery in a homebrew plywood box bolted underneath the companionway step. Can anyone one tell me or post a pic of where and how the battery box was originally located? I'd like to move the battery (and maybe add a second one) so I can use that space for a cooler.

Thanks.

Thanks for the reply; that's where I'd like to put it. The two cockpit drains are on either side of the centerline in that area. Were your batteries both on the starboard side on a level tray glassed onto the sloped bottom of the hull, starboard of the starboard thruhull?

I've attached a pic of a second box Dan Pfeiffer put on the port side of the thruhulls.

On my boat, currently (no pun intended), there's a board on the starboard bulkhead in that lazarette that has a battery charger, switch, and a/c outlet from the incoming shorepower line... all currently unused because I don't trust it. Where exactly was your battery switch; was it in the lazarette, or someplace inside the cabin?

Sorry to be such a pest.. I'm heading out to the boat in an hour to test fit the new cooktop cabin. While I'm out there, I'll crawl around and take another pic or two.

Thanks again!

Pretty much custom built but nothing fancy. Both Batteries located in the starboard lazerette with the switch on what I will call a bulkhead closest to the cabin. My breaker panel was located on the opposite side inside the cabin. The switch could have just as well been on the inside next to the Panel but I didn't see the need at the time. I guess it might be safer if it was on the inside if you were using the boat as a cruiser. The majority of the use for my boat was beer can racing and daysailing. Now I have a cruising boat that I use as a daysailor simply because I don't want to have to squat when I am on my way to the head. Those over 60 will know exactly what I'm talking about.:laugh
