Re: P60 starting issue
I realize that this is an old thread, but continuing it seems preferable to starting a new one.
I've just purchased an Islander 30 with a Palmer P60 inboard. It started and ran fine two years ago per the PO (and corroborated with a now-dockmate who'd worked with the PO on the boat often). The PO's brother replaced a number of things which weren't broken (long story), one of which was the distributor cap. My first task is to ensure that the timing is rough-set correctly; he rotated the flywheel to TDC (Top Dead Center), but wasn't sure if it was on the compression or exhaust phase. :-/
The info I've gathered here and on other forums is that sticky/stuck valves are a common problem, so I've gotten some Marvel Mystery Oil, both the 'classic' and the new 'ultimate' products. My plan is to add the recommended amount of the 'ultimate' to the fuel tank and pour a few ounces into each cylinder through the spark plug hole.
I'd appreciate confirmation and/or suggestions from the more knowledgeable members of the hive mind before I take the above actions... thanks!

(BTW, I'll add another message directly with added references for P60 owners.)
