I had the privilege of arriving at Pearl aboard USS Tarawa (LHA 1) and spending time on the base.

Although I had been to Pearl Harbor a couple of times before - on the civilian side - there was something special about getting 'behind the scenes'.

Here's a pic of a sailor on the deck of Tarawa as we passed the Arizona Memorial:

I was at the Arizona memorial in Honolulu a few years ago. There were more Japanese tourists there than Americans on the day I attended. By the end of a presentation by a survivor of the attack; many of the older Japanese were weeping.
