We're moving up form a precision 21 and have been sailing in Fisher Island Sound, but we'd like to have a boat that we could spend weekends on and go out to block island and long island. We made an offer on a pearson 32, but it didn't go through, now my wife is thinking a 28 ft. might be more in her comfort zone. We always seem to come back to the pearson, but there are 2 ericson 28 's that are in our area and price range. The pearson is a 79 (10K 2007 survey says refitted and well maintained) the ericsons are 86 and 89's (15K and 22K)

Any comments, advice or suggestions on the construction, quality and sailing characteristics of the two boats? Greatly appreciate it.

The Pearson 28 is a nice boat, well made and good sailing characteristics, maybe not the most spacious 28, but a good value all around. Don't know the Ericson. As usual, the best buying strategy is to pay a premium for a well-equipped and maintained model. My favorite 28 is the Call 28-II, thes emay run mid- upper $20K but are a very sweet, more modern design.
