Seems like the standard recommendation for a whisker pole on a Catalina 445 is for a pole that will extend to 24'. I'm wondering if 27' pole might work better. The attached image shows a 24' and 27' pole with a guess as to how it would rig on an asymmetrical with a foot of 28'. I set the curve length to 28' on both images in the attached, but of course the cross section view like this should probably be a bit shorter. Doyle reports this OEM sail made for Catalina has the following dimensions....
Lu-57.8'
Le-52'
Ft-28.13
LP-26.19

Basic dimensions are on the 2nd attachment. The boat has a Selden bowsprit. What do you think? Which size pole to get? View attachment 45929

SJ... Did I miss it? Did you decide on a C445 after all?

Yea, I guess I did. Survey is next week. I looked at used Tartan, Alden, Sabre, and Morse and decided I just didn't want to give up all the modern design features. I was going to go to Sweden and Denmark this spring to take a look at new boats. I really do like the Hallberg Rassy 412 and the XYachts Xc42, but at $650,000 plus all the hassle of commishing a new boat that was unfamilar to the local yard, I decided that was just too much crazyness. Catalina remains a safe bet and I do think they are making their boats better than the other middle class boats.

You could certainly "get by" with a 24' pole, but I think it would be better suited to a 40-42' boat. Personally, I think the broader spread that would be permitted by a 27' pole would suit your boat better.
