The "pirates" never fired at the ship. They never actually attacked the ship. The security team fired warning shots to keep them from getting any closer. The appropriate actions were taken, for what was NOT clearly an attack."The rounds impacted the water approximately 20 meters from the closest boat and resulted in both small boats ending their pursuit. All shots were accounted for as they entered the water."
Let me get this straight. Somali Pirates attacked a U.S. Navel vessel and the Navy counted the rounds they used that entered the water? Then they allowed the pirates to leave the area and attack other ships on another day? WTF! No wonder the piracy is not stopping.
Was there something about pirates in that news report....all I saw was Jeffrey's Bay....one of the top point breaks in the world...maybe someday I'll get there.
Yup, no shortage of potentially false assumptions to be drawn from such a poorly written account. Classic case of a misleading headline, at the very least, one that is contradicted, or at least called into question, within the body of the story...The "pirates" never fired at the ship. They never actually attacked the ship. The security team fired warning shots to keep them from getting any closer. The appropriate actions were taken, for what was NOT clearly an attack.
Perhaps news from the outside world will someday get to Jeffrey's Bay in a bit more timely fashion, as well...Was there something about pirates in that news report....all I saw was Jeffrey's Bay....one of the top point breaks in the world...maybe someday I'll get there.
Good find, Jon. I wonder if the folks at Jeffery's Bay News have got around to reporting on the '08 elections yet....
