Does anyone have experience going through here successfully? Seems to be unmarked shoaling coming from Oxford going to St. Michaels.

There is reported shoaling on the charts..but nothing really to be concerned about unless you draw over 7 feet.

I've been thrue there lots of times don't recall anything less than 8 foot depth in the area of concern. I'd be more concerned about the western portion of Knapps Narrows especially around the 15ft R '4'.

Been through there many times...kind of a shortcut but not a lot of room for tacking if the wind is in front oif you

Went through there last fall with 5 ft. Draft, No issues. It's a popular fishing spot and was pretty dense with pots, so you'll need to pick your way through.

I have been through there with 6'-4" draft at pretty low tide. I don't recall seeing anything too scary.

I went through Poplar Narrows on Friday Jul 19th at mid-tide. I have a CSY 44 that draws 6'6". The depth transducer is mounted apx 4 feet above the keel bottom. I was showing 5 ' in places which gave me about 1' of clearance.
I was thinking of going through Knapps narrows westbound from the Choptank, I called one of the marinas on the narrows. When I told her what I draw, she recommended I not try it. My last time through was sometime in 2012. I went aground between green 5 and red 6. It took a good 45 minutes to cover the distance to red 6 where I had deep water.

I think at high tide, really hugging the red marks, you could still make it.

I made it through Poplar Island narrows with no problem. I'm not sure about Knapps. On the eastern side, the only red is at the entrance. There are 2 greens on the approach. Past experience is that I could not hug the greens as it shoaled considerably on the green side; probably from n/ne winds. Moving further out helped some but there are lumps on which I got hung up. For the extra hour or so, it's easier to go around the southern tip of Tilghman Island.

I've been through several times, it can get a bit skinny in the middle at low tide, but nothing under 6 feet that I saw. The biggest problem is pound nets and crab pots, which are everywhere. It's not a place you want to navigate at night, though.

Knapps Narrows was where I had the problem. The water was plenty deep, but the current was screaming toward the Choptank and the bridge tender guy waited till the very last second to open the damned bridge. Even with full hard reverse, I was still moving forward at 2 MPH toward the bridge, despite the face that after talking with the bridge tender on the radio 10 minutes before my arrival, he failed to answer when I got within 500 feet of the bridge - Scared the crap out of me.
