Hi
After changing the hydraulic hose on my bene 42cc ( 23 ft $450) I can't find the fluid recomended by sa lecombré &schmitt hydraulic pump (dexron II or ISO 22)
Does the fluid has to be marine grade or can I go to an auto store and buy fluid with the same viscosity ISO 22
Thank you

Ain't my forte, but since no one else has weighed in...

I don't know of any of any marine requirement... It's pretty much just oil with some optional anti-corrosion additives sometimes. Anything listed as hydraulic or spindle or gear oil with a "22" in the name will probably be the right stuff. Don't focus just on power steering or transmission oil.

I would check with Bene. With that said, any ISO 22 oil should be fine. Looks like they are sold in the US primarily for use in hydraulic jacks. Not cheap.

Dexron II is plain old ATF (automatic transmission fluid).

and all Dexron versions are supposed to be backward compatible...you'll have trouble finding Dexron II (another way of saying it will be impossible) but you can buy later versions just about anywhere.

For years I used any old ATF in my hydraulic steering on a sport fisherman I operated. And every 2 years or so, I had to service the unit; even sooner if she sat for a month or two.
After the ram froze up so badly I couldn't free it on the boat, I took it to be serviced and the first thing the tech asked was what oil I used in it. "Any ATF", I answered. He proceeded to inform me that using the incorrect fluid allowed the seals to dry out causing all the trouble I'd been having with the ram for so many years.
I suggest you find the recommended oil or it's equivalent, and use it.
