Howdy all,

Is the rudder packing on a PS34 replaceable with the boat in the water? If so, any tricks or tips that you have would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I have a PSC31. I replaced my rudder stuffing box flax packing with the boat in the water. I suspect the PSC34 will also not be a problem. It looks like the rudder stuffing box is also above the water line.

If I remember correctly it was a 3/8" size packing. Do not use the PTFE flax packing, though. It is very difficult to shove into the rudder stuffing box. Just use the normal flax packing and you will be fine.

I am pretty sure the packing on my 1989 PSC 34’s rudder post is 1/4”. Leaked mostly when the boat squatted on long runs under power. Had to remove the steering quadrant to open it up.
