Hi, Im a new member and novice sailor. Im looking into the purchase of a Ranger 23. I understand that it is a great boat for SF bay where I will be sailing. I have heard there are a couple of different rigging configurations that the ranger came with, one that has 2 mainsails? I have not been able to find more information on the configurations & I would be interested in hearing from folks with knowledge of Ranger 23. Also, the boat I am going to look at is in the water in vicinity of Richmond CA. When I go to inspect it what are the main considerations I should be looking at to determine condition and how much work is going to be needed. Also, what can I expect in yearly maintenance costs to keep it up myself? Sorry if this post is very naive, but have to start somewhere! Thank you in advance for any advice you can give to me on the subject. Spiros

It would be nice to know what year the boat is from, eg., how old?
Beyond that, it is a good boat in the hands of a good skipper and crew. We raced against one this season and they won the 'scow' (high PHRF) division.
Many of the answers you seek are covered in this thread: http://www.sailnet.com/forums/boat-review-purchase-forum/48177-boat-inspection-trip-tips.html

You are going to want to get a good surveyor to check it out for you before you buy it.
I've never heard of a sloop rigged boat using 2 main sails at the same time, 2 jibs, yes.
Enjoy.
