Hi Gang. I'm curious if anyones used a portable outdoor butane heater aboard their pocket cruiser. I've used the heater buddy propane aboard my 24' neptune and it worked great. This is what I'm considering getting for my salon.

I'd turn it off before hitting the rack and keep the area ventilated while using it. Thoughts/input.

Oughtta work. Be careful of propane aboard. Store all heavier-than-air gasses (such as LP) outside,else any leakage will fill the bilge, and you can easily "blow the hatches".

Since we have a 2-burner Origo non-pressurized stove, we use a Heat pal (same type of canister arrangement as the stove), similar BTU's to your proposed unit, and it works fine. Ventilation is important, of course.

There are two problems:

1. CO2 and CO production.
2. Water production.

Although CO2 and CO is not a major problem if you keep the area ventilated, humidity is really a problem. When you ventilate enough for humidity and CO2, the unit cannot heat the place. In case of poor ventilatation a lot of water vapour stays inside and causes high humidty. It really rains from the top of the cabin. This is tested. Any type of burning solids or liquids should have a chimney for transferring gases to the outside.

Yes, I've used the MR HEATER BEFORE and it causes the water buildup. Will that happen buring butane as well?

Any non-vented gas heater will do that, since the two byproducts of burning hydrocarbon fuels are WATER (H2O) and CARBON OXIDES (CO and CO2).

What about origo heatpal? I don't know anything about them. How do they work and where do you put them? Someone mentioned a flower pot upside down on the alchohol stove..is this really a viable option for the weekender on my little boat? Sounds like a good idea.

Still an open flame in an unvented space leading to CO dangers and moisture.... a vented heater is the only way to go if burning hydrocarbons.
