Has anyone used PVC pipe to mount a radar unit on the stern? I would probably have a mount on the stern of the boat and use the pvc pipe. Do you think the pvc pipe would be strong enough? The radar unit is JRC 1000.

PVC pipe is not strong enough. If you calculate how much the radome weighs, and multiply that by the length of the pole mount, you get an idea of how much force might be applied at a minimum to the base of the pole mount when the boat rolls—say during a broach or gybe. :) Most radar mounting poles I've seen are stainless steel for a reason.

My buddy Doug, with an Irwin 30 very successfully used "plastic" pipe for mounting his Radar on the stern.

Me, I built my last one using 2 inch, thick walled aluminum. Am building another this week for our "new to us" Irwin 34.
