Hi All,

This question is for those of you who have installed a radar pole on the back of your boat (or watched it being installed). I have a new Seaview radar pole (3") with the universal base. I was gathering all the pieces and pre-drilling the dome plate etc., when I got to thinking. Do I install this thing while the boat is in the water to get it level (like we did the mast when stepping it) or can I do it on the hard (as I thought I was going to do)? The only adjustments I will have for the pole are for and aft. Right and left is set with the base when I drill it onto the transom... so it's a one shot deal. Any thoughts on this? Thanks.

If your only adjustment is fore-and-aft, do the best you can before launch, and leave it so you can 'fine tune' the vertical once you're afloat? If the brace is meant to be a fixed length, maybe substitute a turnbuckle so you can adjust it later to fine tune?

In the water is fine. In my opinion perfectly plumb is not the goal. The goal is a pleasing look. Almost nothing on a small boat is plumb. Plus, a slight lean aft is normally easier on the eye than a slight lean forward.

Agreed... we deliberately put some aft rake into ours...(look closely ;))

Thanks Guys,

I got a response back from Seaview... said basically the same thing. I'll have fore/aft adjustment with the attachments to the rails. I'll eyeball the verticle on the hard. Thanks. Nice looking boat Faster! ;)

Remember unless you have a pivot on the head section to compensate for heal, the only time it will be level left to right is when you are sitting at the dock or on the hard, and you shouldn't need to be using radar in either of those conditions. Just get it close.
