Hello All,
Introduction:
I've been a long time Laser sailer and recently decided to get a boat of my own. I purchased a 15' day sailer - Columbia Yacht by R.S. Dorris whose mast is completely in 2 pieces. I am currently working on getting it and the boom rebuilt. I'm getting an extrusion from Dwyer and I plan to just swap all the hardware from the old to new mast since it is all 2 years or less old. However the boom is a different story.
The current boom is 1.75" diameter. I think the gooseneck is a little damaged so I'm going to see about a new boom and gooseneck. It seems like at Dwyer they have goosenecks for 1.5" diameter booms only. Is it ok to drop the boom diameter by 1/4"? Would there be any gains/problems with a slightly smaller boom? It would make the re-rigging much easier if I could do that. I can also see if they have a 1.75" gooseneck if all else fails.
Thanks for any info.
More questions to come I'm sure.
