I've got an old school million CP halogen spotlight. Its very bright but there are a few downsides:

1 - It is halogen and it sucks a lot of juice
2 - It has a very wide, non adjustable, beam. When I click it on it tends to light up the deck, sails, rigging, everything ... and I immediately loose my night vision.
3 - It is corded so I have the damned cord in the way most of the time.

So I'm looking for a rechargeable, LED with a focus-able beam. something that could be very narrow when necessary. It does not need to be 1 million CP, I'd think I could get away with as little as 200.

Surprisingly enough we got a Stanley rechargable light a few years ago and it works great. Takes a 12v charge as if primary sales are for autos, can go underwater to a depth of 10m i think and we have had it underwater when we piked up a stray mooring line while leaving a mooring field at 0300.
Got it a home depot.

We've got a Streamlight Waypoint that I like a lot. It's powerful (300 lumens/80k candela), efficient and waterproof. You can read my review here: Streamlight Waypoint LED Spotlight

I am also currently testing out the Pelican 7000 LED tactical light. While it's essentially a small handheld LED flashlight and not technically a spotlight, it's extremely bright at 602 lumens and can be used as such. Might be worth checking out as a backup spotlight and a really well-made flashlight.

MARINEBEAM ULTRA LONG RANGE CREE RLT ILLUMINATOR
Sorry, I'm not trying to shout, that is just cut and pasted from their website so you can Google it. I got one for Christmas, and I love it. It is an amazing handheld light. It lights things up at a ridiculous distance, and has a very focused beam that does not reflect off of everything close to you.

That package looks very much like my Black Decker, except the Black and Decker is 10 watts/700 lumen. The beam focus is narrower than modern car headlamps, and can easily be seen shining on top of the car lights. It also has a dimming option, so it will operate for 7 hours. The dimming option is also nice when using for close work, like repairing something inside a cabinet, as the direct light is too bright reflecting of what ever you are trying to see.

The only drawback is coming into port, I had the light angled down to be able to see the surroundings. The reflection off the water blinded the people on shore. I've often thought I would be better off to have permanent lighting mounted to the spars, so the downward cast would be at a much steeper angle.

I got a super cheapy from Harbor Freight Tools. It stays on deck and gets wet/spray coated. I know it will fail eventually, but to date, it's worked marvelously. Quick charge with 12 volt outlet. Battery life is AMAZING. I don't know the technical number about lumens or candlepower; I'd just say it is dang bright!

Again, its cheap, so if you drop if overboard, lose it, or break it . . . no biggie.
