I'm planning to switch my anchor rode to all chain and would like to install a good, reasonably priced, high pressure, saltwater wash down pump. Any any all experienced comments are invited. Thanks.

I do not think you can go too far wrong with any US name brand, even though their products may be made overseas. Jabsco, Johnson, Shurflo, West Marine should all be fine. I would look for a sale, though PSI will make a difference how effectively the jet cleans a muddy chain, don' t skimp for the sake of $20.

I would avoid second tier Chinese-made brands, but admittedly that is not based on any first hand bad experience. It reflects my personal view that paying an additional 20% for an already-inexpensive convenience item with better warranty coverage is worth it.

I'm a big fan of the Shurflo Blaster. I used to use them on heavy equipment for dust suppression systems. They would run all day long, several hours dry, and last much longer than they had any right to. The one on our sailboat has worked flawlessly for over 5 years now.

As anyone seen or tried those TRAC portable washdown pumps. I could see one of these stored in my anchor locker. I'd just have add a 12 V outlet in the anchor locker but that'd be easy to tap into the windlass electrical supply. At 2GPM, capacity is on the low end but then specs says 100PSI which isn't bad.

Jabsco is made in China. Rule is made in Mexico. Johnson is made in Hanover Park, IL.

I like this one:

Oh, and don't you want to rinse the chain with fresh water? Could you install a Y valve to do the initial washdown with salt water, then flip to fresh for a rinse? Then maybe you could even use it to rinse the whole boat with fresh water when needed....

Our water is brackish so not too worry about salty water. There are quite a few anchorages with soft mud in my area so, this is mainly to prevent the anchor locker to get messy. And yes, water bucket is one solution but it's a pain.

I use a Shureflo 3.0 GPM pump that is situated in a compartment in the head and has a "Y" connection to the head inlet line. It has an automatic pressure switch and really does a fantastic job washing off that slimy, black, gooey, Chesapeake Bay mud from the chain and anchor.

All the best,

Gary

The Xylem people at the Miami boat show were knocking the "Chinese" pumps. I asked where their pumps were made, and they told me that "these Jabsco pumps" are made in China, and Rule is made in mexico. So, it is entirely possible that other Jabsco pumps that weren't right in front of them are made in Mexico.

We purchase direct from Jabsco. All our pumps, whether water system or macerator, are made in Mexico. I have never seen a Jabsco pump made in China. It's possible some are made in China but they have not shipped any to us, and we are a large volume dealer.

I just bought the Jabsco Hotshot 6gpm 70psi washdown pump. Box says it was made in Mexico.

This was the really funny part. There are several pics of this really hot woman on the box, in all sorts of poses with the device. Now, sex really sells everything.

I ordered it online, so didn't know about the pics. Have to admit, I felt pretty good about my purchase, when it arrived. :)

They had a table. The guy was certainly not happy telling me that his pumps were made in Mexico and China after belittling other brands for being made in China. He couldn't, however, tell me anything about those brands, or his, for that matter, that made his superior or those inferior.

Just bumping this question. Any experience out there? Any thoughts. Will it work? I'm seriously considering it.
