Maine, I just replaced my bearing with the shaft in place using a "Strut Pro" tool. Unfortunately, I was under the gun to get the job done and the tool shipped to the next C36 member so I wasn't able to document the job at all. Googling "Strut Pro" will bring up the page detailing how the tool is used.
If you have access to such a tool tool it offers another option for those needing to replace a cutlass bearing in a strut with the prop shaft in place.
Edited to add: Isn't a "Cutlass Bearing" more precisely a "Cutlass bushing" I always thought it was a bushing if it didn't move and a bearing if it spun.
