Hi all - as I was inspecting the turnbuckles on my boat I found a small hairline crack in the terminal for one of the upper shrouds. I'd like to get a rigger to look at it and possibly replace it. The standing rigging is about 18 years old, so I may need to replace all of it. Any recommendations for a good rigger in the Salem/Marblehead Mass area? Thanks for any and all suggestions!

Northeast Home is replacing our standing rigging. Although the rig is not yet finished, they have impressed me so far...

Thanks! I talked with the yard this morning and they also recommended NE riggers. I hope it is just that one fitting that needs replacing, but chances are...

Just heard back from NE riggers - they've already done an inspection of the rigging. The turnbuckles are fine, but the stays and terminals need replacing. Next decision is what kind of terminals - he mentioned that swaged fittings are just fine for sailing in New England (which is what we do mostly), but if we wanted to sail south, he'd recommend sta-lok or norseman type fittings. Any thoughts on swage fittings versus the more expensive kind? Thanks!

swage up top, norseman or any other good mechanical on bottom

I used NE Rigging last year to replace my rigging. While I would recommend them, I wish they did a better job with my furler and head stay measurements, too long. The headstay fits, but I don't have much adjust room. If you are seriously going to replace everything, see if they can measure the actual rig dimensions and not jus the individual pieces.

Also be very clear about what is included in your price. The gave me a quote of $X for pulling the mast, making the rig, and then reinstalling rig to the boat. I took everything off the mast (shrouds and spreaders) and reinstalled. In the conversation re: quote, it was implied that a final rig tune, once the boat was back in the water and the rig was seated would be done by them. I was shocked that I got a bill for the final rig tune >$300 (Time and travel) I called them on it and it has been sitting in limbo now for almost 8 months. This is when I found out that they maxed out the adjustment for the headstay to get it tight. A couple of other minor things, such as the halyards on the wrong side of the spreader at the top, which I fixed, but they did a decent job overall and were timely.

We have Swage top and bottom. I debated with the mechanicals on the bottom and they talked me out/into Swage. My rig is over designed for the size boat I have (Pearson 10M).
