?''''s about 27ft Clark San Jaun

I have a chance to buy one of these very cheaply and plan to use it for inland lake sailing. It has a 2-stroke outboard mounted as an inboard(like an early version of a saildrive) just behind the keel. And, if I remove the first bulkhead I will end up with an 8ft long v-berth. I''m really just looking for overall quality opinions as I have anouther boat to race and will just use this boat for overnighting and as a fishing craft. On the other hand I don''t want to waste my time on the overhaul if it''s a poorly designed boat with no value to the next owner. Hopefully Jeff is familiar with this model. Thanks, John....

I grew up sailing a San Juan 21 which my father still has, and its in great shape. I''m not sure which San Juan you are referring to. Clark made a 7.7 which was 26''. If you go to www.boats.com there is one for sale with a picture in Barrington RI for $4950. I used to race on a 7.7 and I liked the boat alot. They also made a San Juan 26 which I always thought was ugly and I don''t know anything about. They also made a 28 which was a nice boat. There are some listed for sale on www.boats.com
Of course one of their most popular boat was the 24, and alot of those are still racing in parts of the country.
In general my opinion is that Clark made a pretty good boat, and they were enjoyable to sail.

Rob, I checked the pictures on boats.com. It''s definetly the same boat as the one listed under the heading ''Clark San Juan'' . that boat shows an oal of 26ft. It''s hard to tell in the picture if that boat has the same inboard mounted outboard but the hull is the same. Thanks, John...

John,
I looked at the picture, and I am pretty sure that is the San Juan 26, not the 7.7 which I had raced on. Unfortunately, I don''t know much about the 26, and never sailed on one, but Clark generally made a good quality boat. Rob ~~~~_/)~~~~

I always forget about BoatCheck. Good idea.
There is actually a website there devoted to San Juan 26''s and 7.7''s:
