I'm looking for an instructional sail trim video with a specific format. Probably doesn't exist but it would help me immensely.

1)None of that stuff about the physics of sails, no theory, no airplane wing cartoons. I get that part. Every book that I've read spends 3/4 of its chapters going on about it then brushes over trim in 4 chapters

2) Must be painfully practical. Cause and effect.

3)Multi paned video showing the trimmer, the sail and the boat, all in separate panes.

I want to see the trimmer do his thing and narrate what he's doing and why. At the same time I want to glance at the sail and see the change as it happens, all the while hearing the narrator's melodious strains. Then I want to see the effect on the boat, speed, heeling, attitude to wind.

Help me Obi-Skip. You're my only hope.

Dude! I know! Devilishly troubling! Maybe that's why there are so few responses.

I've seen the Bennett videos, and though they are good, I'm looking for something a little more. Never satisfied I guess. It was kind of a "wish they had something like this" comment really, just hoping somebody would know of something. Thanks for responding. I think I need to sacrifice a chicken or something now.

Thanks

Don

I just dug up this gem... not exactly what you are looking for, but the graphics help a lot.

Best book I've read was North Sails Race trim.
Really great presentation... older for sure.

Actually that was a better video than even I thought... great video having conversations with the crew, and them having to learn the J/35.

Shnool,

Thanks. It WAS good to hear the conversations of the crew. I think the big problem is as he states in the beginning. Every time you go out, things are a little different. Even minute to minute. So, I trim the mainsail. In doing so, I veer 5 degrees off course. SO . . . the sail acts a little differently that the book says it should. What the !?!?! I'll try this instead. "Honey, I think my sails are blown out. I need to Break Out Another Thousand for a new one."
