Just bought my Hunter 26 and sailed it for 3 months last fall off the coast of Savannah Ga. I may be relocating to Atlanta for work. Looks like Lake Allatoona and Lake Lanier are my sailing choices. Anyone have suggestions on the lake sailing or marinas there? Thanks.

Lanier is the better choice for sailing. Better depth, much prettier, all around better.

Aqualand is good for me, huge with 1000 plus slips and good self service yard. Depends what side of the lake you live on. Sunrise Cove further north is nice and small. Holiday is further south but really crowded with power boaters and just a lot of traffic to get in the place.

I have had our 1971 Person 30 at Lake Lanier since 1985 ... sold it a few years ago and now have a 1977 Cape Dory Typhoon at Lake Lanier, Sun Rise Cove Marina. PM me for more info if you like.

Whatever you Do dont put a sailboat in Allatoona, That were I came from. Great for power boats but blocked from the wind from all sides. Mountian to tall to let it thru. Lake Lanier Has a good open expance of water farley wide in some spots. Nice body of water. if you Want to talk to somone call Ricky-Lee at Lord nelson sailing. Grat guy has had a charter sail fleet there for 15 years.
Cheers, LT

Thank you. I may be living in the Merieta or Kennesaw area. How long to drive to Lanier from there, traffic permitting of course?

My daughter and her husband live in Marrieta and every time we go to visit reminds me of why I would never leave the Savannah area. We have our home in Godley Station since 2008 and it will be our retirement home.

Good luck and hope you land in Lake Lanier... Great place to have a boat in, we have friends there. Are you taking the current boat there?

Yes. Taking the boat with me. Job related move. Don't really want to go as I am from the Savannah area.

Great... do you currently have the boat in a slip? We like the Isle of Hope marina... Thunderboat marina is easier and closer but heard horror stories about it... Wilmington Island has Hogans marina and we know the owners as she was a teacher with my wife at May Howard but she is now retired... it's behind the Publix on the island... anyway hope the best for you... happy sailing on Lake Lanier... and the new job.
