Sailing in New Mexico??

Looking for any desert sailors for a little bit of info. I'm currently on the East Coast and enjoy the unrestricted access of a boat in the ocean 10 minutes away from me ( in Rhode Island).
I'm faced with possibly having to move to Santa Fe for work and I'm curious if my love of the wind filling my sails is going to go bye bye like the shore off the stern.

I have a 23 foot trailer sailor right now that stays on a mooring during season. I'd hate to go smaller in size but I'm curious if being able to continue to sail close to Santa Fe is going to be a reality or not.

Any of my fellow Sailnet members able to provide some insight? Does anyone own or sail in the area? Will it be possible to easily get out for a couple hours or will it become something that requires a drive of a couple hours to get somewhere and take a whole day?

I appreciate all the information I've been able to learn from our members and look forward to hearing your experiences in this matter.
I sailed on the Chesapeake, so I know what real sailing is supposed to be like. In New Mexico, there is little to no reason to sail. New Mexico is landlocked. Power boats ruin all the wake lakes for sailboats. There aren't that many wakeless lakes in New Mexico and they are all small. The wind never comes out of just one direction. You can be sailing along and suddenly the wind is ninety degrees away from where it was a minute ago. Hiking hunting and camping are the outdoor activities in New Mexico.
