Hello people, mi name is Juan Moschetti, actually living in Uruguay (South of South America). At my 46, an urge for sailing has awaked in me. I've been power boating for many years, in rivers and close to the shore, always been in love with the ocean. So instead of buying a house at the beach, I will buy a boat (house) for the ocean. Next week I'm taking the ASA first four levels in Fort Lauderdale, and I feel like a teenager. I will write all about this new experience.
I have some long term plans that include sailing around the world, sounds crazy!.
For now my concerns are the type of boat I should buy, If I should go for a cruising one, should it be new.
Any suggestions on how to become a better sailor are welcome!!!

I would say you might think of renting a sailboat and doing some coastal sailing once you have finished with the lessons. You can get one that is a bareboat rental, meaning it comes with only the boat, and no crew, or you can get one with a captain.

Took the Buquebus ferry to Uruguay from Buenos Aires once several years ago. Great trip and great steak!

The classes you want to take are a great start.
One way to learn to sail more is on other people's boats. You can learn a lot crewing on racing sailboats so if there is anywhere near you where people race there should be an opportunity to crew. Your classes should help you gain acceptance as a potential crew member.
The more different kinds of boats you can crew on the better an idea you will have of what kind of boat you might like to buy.
