My name is Les, and I'm thinking about a 22' sailboat, A friend of mine was given a Early 70's South Coast Seacraft, trailer boat and has done nothing with it and offered it to me, if I want it.
Problems....
1. I don't know a thing about sailboats or sailing.... but the price is right (come get it.....) It may be fixable, usable or sellable
2. The person who gave it to him, didn't give him a title, so he has none to give to me.... which is apparently a big problem, at least in Ohio...
3. Boat has been sitting for at least 8 years. Uncovered much of that time... We emptied and rinsed it out when he got it... (full of black slimmy water and old decaying leaves and sticks... but at least it held water....)
4. Right now its full of water again (or should I say Ice.....) Don't know if any damage has been done, how much.... how to fix, if its worth anything to fix it, and most importantly, can I get a title for it...
It was left it at my friends old house when he moved. It's parked on trailer still, some distance from house, and the house it self is going to be demolished some time in the future (no time frame yet) I'm thinking there's no immediate rush, but I was advised by other friends with boats (power boats) that I shouldn't touch it until I get a title.
Any ideas and info would be greatly appreciated. I like the look of it, and can imagine cleaning it up, fixing up the cabin and using it as a little camper, even if I never put it in the water.... which without title, that might be the only thing it will be useable for other than landfill (which I would hate to do to it)
Another option might to be salvage anything useable of it (mast, retractable keel, fitting and I think he said it had a 6.5 hp trolling motor too.) abandon it on said property and take the trailer and build a little trailer on it or sell it to someone who needs a trailer for sc 22 or similar craft or utility trailer.
