FWIW we saw far more evidence of Towboat/U.S. vendors (franchisees?) on our ICW trips. Also, we like the flat $1K max coverage available when TB/U.S. vendor is not available (e.g. when in the islands). Neither of these may matter to you when staying in your home waters.
The vendors are private operators, so your question is a bit like asking who good Ford vs. Chevy dealers are.
Thanks for your response, folks.
Yes, I did realize that it IS a bit like asking which is the better boat... and that everybody WOULD have an opinion! I was just hoping that somebody would have had some good or bad experiences to share.
We had a close encounter with the bottom in the Albemarle Sound and it SEEMED to me that we would have had to wait a VERY long time (relatively) before EITHER would have arrived even in such a busy area. I just wondered if that was right and if there were OTHER places that you wouldn''t expect long delays but HAD them.
Thanks again for taking time to respond.
Oh, by the way... another example was when we took a wrong turning... or rather didn''t take a RIGHT turn at Ponce De Lion, and ended up in a VERY narrow channel... the SeaTow boat took the trouble to lead us back to a good channel which turned out to be a short cut back to the ICW.
He was very helpful and could quite easily have let us keep going until we needed his help!
Mind you, I''m sure a TowUS boat would have done the same, but it WAS a SeaTow boat helped us... FREE!
