Does anyone know a good place to find used sailboat hardware? I need about 20 1/2" x 1" sail track slugs, some 3/8 pin size rigging shackles; D, Long D, and twisted. I also need some sail shackles for the slides/slugs.

Second Wave (secondwave.cc) is having their final clearance sale in a few days. They were the best place for used stuff in Seattle, but recently closed due to losing their lease.

The next closest options are in Poulsbo, Bellingham, and Portland.

I'd buy slugs new, they don't last forever and aren't that expensive. If you belong to any boating club or organization you'll get a discount at Fisheries Supply and pay 52 cents each. Without they are only 68 cents each. Even if you find them used for 30 cents each you'll only be saving a couple of dollars.

If you are on the East Coast, Bacons in Annapolis has an excellent supply of used sailboat equipment. I echo the statement to buy only new slugs. UV gets them all too quickly.

I used ebay often for my other hobbies but haven't found much for sailboat gear.


Woa! They are really that cheap at west marine / fisheries supply? Defender industries wants $3 and some change for them. That's why I was thinking about second hand. At $3.50 ish these will get very expensive very quick. Only downfall is I'm in Moses Lake till later this year... 180 miles... I miss Seattle.

Minnie's Yacht Surplus sells and ships used sails, so I would guess that they would ship other hardware as well. Super friendly people, and fair prices to boot. They are in Costa Mesa, CA...

Boaters Exchange in Sidney BC has a lot of stuff. You can also find them online.
Sailmakers have a lot of old sail slides with plenty of life left in them.

In general I've found Fisheries (with club pricing, which again, almost any sailor in Seattle can get) to beat Defender on prices of just about everything except for electronics. They also seem to have a wider range in sailing items than Defender does.

The slugs that I linked to will work just fine in tracks that those worked in. I've never seen ones exactly like that, but those could also be 40 years old if they are on a C-Lark. If you have 20 of them on a C-Lark mainsail then the cheap all-plastic ones will probably work, but you might want to get just one first to see if it fits into the mast track.

Poulsbo has the shop and they have some stuff, but probably not very new or specific stuff. They were really nice to me though, and accept trades if you have good stuff.

I vote ebay. Some things like iPhones and cameras are going for really high prices on ebay, but for used sailing hardware you can get just great deals. I think ebay is really good for this. Plus, you don't have to go anywhere and look around and piece anything together from different stores, you can get everyone right there. Ebay has absolutely everything these days.

I'd like to see a pic of your main setup. My C-lark main uses a sewn-in leading edge rope in the mast sail track.
