One difficulty has been solved !! (amazing what can happen on the 3am watch!!!)
In the ocean outside cellphone/VHF coverage MarineTraffic.com relies on Satellites picking up AIS. Fine for Calss A but a bit hit and miss for Class B. Plus your boat is not named only "Pleasure Craft Received by satellite".
But by using a phone app called mAIS and using your normal MarineTraffic.com login details you can automatically update your position every minute or 2. It uses you phones GPS. So your AIS does not nerd to be connected to your phone.
It also allows you to put in Class A details like Destination and intended arrival time, and mode: At Anchor; Underway Sailing etc
And its free!
