Hi,

My chart/nav table has a slit (1/4" wide running almost the length of the table). I'm assuming that is made so that some sort of rim can be inserted to keep things on the table? But there was nothing that looked like it would serve that purpose when I bought the boat from the previous owner.

Any suggestions on what this is meant for?

thanks

We have the same. What Frog says, plus it just keeps the charts from sliding off the table when on a deep heel. If it's not too rough I find it a good place to store a pencil, dividers, or other charting tools.

It's so you can slide the chart down to look at the upper part while not leaning your wet foulies on the chart. I have several "improve your boat" books that describe that arrangement with similar explanations.
